Good day everyone!
Anyone familiar with a way to specify a description or note on a JIRA field that does not show up in the front end screens?
Use Case: we have several fields we would like to mark as "DON'T TOUCH" or something similar. Putting a description on the custom field makes this show up in the front end, as such:
We do not want the users to see this, but it should be visible to admins should they be poking around the custom field config page.
Any ideas?

No, there's no way to do this. Jira doesn't have a field for hidden field descriptions. All you can do is educate your admin team about which fields have special notes (shouldn't be too hard - they're all in one team that meet regularly, and there's only 3 or 4 right?)
Shame, I may post an idea for this. Kudos for your understanding of my Admin team :D
Thanks Nic!

Nick - As I reviewed this further. It seems this can be done on the field context level. The field context description overwrites the custom field description, but leaves the custom field description intact. It does not seem like this is well advertised, but it is working in our cloud instance. I have also found this lightly relevant bug report (now resolved).
Thoughts?

That's not quite "back end", but it works for you. Well spotted!
