We are currently in the process of migrating Jira to Atlassian Jira Cloud. Our goal is to have the same Active Directory users available in Jira Cloud and allow them to authenticate using Azure AD credentials. However, we would like to know if it is possible to integrate Azure AD with Jira Cloud for basic authentication without purchasing Atlassian Guard. Could you please confirm whether this setup is supported, and if there are any alternative methods to achieve Azure AD authentication for Jira Cloud without requiring an Atlassian Guard subscription?
If you consider out-of-the-box solutions, no, you can't connect Azure with Jira without Guard.
Depending on your needs, Marketplace apps may help you.
Hello @Adnan Haider
for Jira Cloud, native Azure AD / Microsoft Entra ID authentication via SAML SSO is generally tied to Atlassian Guard Standard. Atlassian’s current pricing and Guard docs list enforced single sign-on (SSO) as a Guard Standard feature, and the SAML setup flow is handled through the Atlassian organization’s identity provider settings.
So if your question is can we integrate Azure AD with Jira Cloud for Atlassian-native SSO without buying Guard?
then the practical answer is no. Without Guard, users would still sign in through the normal Atlassian account login flow, not org-level Entra/Azure AD SSO.
Jira Cloud + Azure AD / Entra SSO = requires Atlassian Guard Standard.
Without Guard, there is no supported Atlassian-native way to make Jira Cloud authenticate users directly against Azure AD instead of Atlassian accounts.
