Hello,
I have a Jira Software Team Managed project, which is essentially a critical assessment board whereby the users need to create an issue / raise a ticket. It has a series of questions which I have configured. In summary, I have set up automation rules whereby Q1a will auto-populate based on Q1 and Q5 will auto-populate based on Q1a, 2, 3 and 4. The automation works and I have also created a form for this, containing the same fields as the ticket.
Can I apply the same automation rules on the form? So that the auto-population takes place when the users are filling up the form.
I have tested out to fill in the form and submitted it, but Q1a does not auto-populate. It is essentially the same ticket just that it is in a form type instead of issue / ticket type.
Also, I noticed that the labels field were auto-populated when I submitted a form. How do I remove the labels and set the labels to auto-populate to a different label instead?
I appreciate any tips. Thank you in advance.
Hi @Nur Fatin
You’re right that Jira Automation works after issue creation, so fields in Jira Software Forms won’t auto-populate dynamically while filling out the form. However, if you want to control which fields appear based on prior responses, you can achieve this using Smart Forms for Jira.
✔ Conditional Logic for Field Visibility – If a user selects a specific response for Q1, Q1a can be automatically shown with a pre-defined value.
✔ Pre-Defined Values in Hidden Fields – If a response requires additional information, hidden fields can appear with pre-filled values.
✔ Ensure Correct Data Mapping – Submitted form responses can map directly to Jira fields (so Jira Automation still works post-submission).
✔ Control Labels to Prevent Unwanted Auto-Population – Configure Smart Forms settings so labels don’t auto-populate, or assign a default label.
1️⃣ Create the Form in Smart Forms for Jira
2️⃣ Enable Conditional Logic
If you want to keep Jira Automation, set up an automation rule to auto-populate Q1a and Q5 after the form creates the issue:
Hello, Good day. We have conditions available in the form, https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/conditionally-show-form-fields/. But I believe automation for your requirement is not available yet. Thanks
