Automation fails to set Parent issue dates based on Child issue

Elin Wiklund November 1, 2023

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me figure out why my automation rules keep failing to set start and end dates of my epics based. The rule I have set up is three steps:

  1. When an issue that is a story, task, or sub-task is added to a Sprint set the start and end dates of the issue to be the start and end dates of the sprint
  2. If the trigger issue has a parent, and the start date of the parent is after the start date of the trigger issue, copy the start date of the trigger issue to the parent
  3. If the trigger issue has a parent, and the end date of the parent is before the end date of the trigger issue, copy the end date of the trigger issue to the parent

Step 1 of this automation always works, and the automation is also able to find the parent to the trigger issue, however, I get the message "The following issues did not match the condition:" in all instances and the start and end dates of my epics are not updated.

Including below a screenshot of the automation setup. Any help in how to resolve this would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Elin

Hi @Elin Wiklund,

After you edit the start and end date of your trigger issue, you may want to add an additional action Refetch issue data, to make sure the updated dates are properly taken into account.

Hope this helps!

Hi Walter, that worked, thank you so much for your help! I've been trying to figure out why it wasn't working for so long and it turned out it was a simple thing to do.

I also added a second condition to copy the date information when the dates on the epic are empty since it seems the conditions "is after" and "is before" do not work where the value is empty...
