Automation: Automatically add Labels when sprints starts

Fidan Bakhishli January 10, 2023

Hi!
I would like to ask a question about an automation rule.

The goal of the rule is to Automatically add Labels that are the same as the sprint number to all the tasks that are in the Sprint when Sprint starts. As well as to all the tasks that have been created during the current sprint and added to it.

Based on the rule I have create a flow like this and  under the Labels part I put the Smart Value {{sprint.name}} , so label will be copying the name of the Sprint.

But when I run the report it is not working, here is the error:

Please advise a solution. Thanks!

Could you show us the branch rule?  (In your first screenshot, click on the purple tree-branch icon)

Also, a question for my curiosity.  Why?  Labels are for grouping issues together when they have something in common, and hence mostly used in searches.  The sprint field already does that, so you would be creating redundant noise in the labels field.

Hey Nic!

Thank you for you response. The reason is currently we are using other Labels too( per departments etc) so it will help us to create the report based on Labels adding the sprints too.

Here is the Branch Rule:

Ok, that sounds very clunky to me, odd that you'd want to mix sprints in with totally unrelated groupings, but if it works for you, I don't need to ask more.  Thanks for explaining!

(Well, actually, now I'm trying to imagine what your reports tell you, but I'm not going to trouble you further on that bit)

Your branch rule is not (directly) the problem.  I think the next thing to look at is the two sprints in the error, I think they may be the problem.

Does your board show both sprints?  Can you find the 1332 sprint?  Most importantly, what is the board filter?  (I suspect it is not as simple as "Project = TP")

Hey! As you can see I have only one Sprint. I didnt get what is the board filter. Sprint name is TP-Sprintnumber. But still I can not find what is this error means

Yes, that looks right to me, but the error message is about a second sprint, so there is something looking for another sprint for some reason.

Very quick check - from your screenshot, click on "backlog" and make sure you start at the top of it.  Is it showing a single sprint at the top of the backlog?  I am hoping it does, and the sprint is called TP-Sprint11 (don't need a screenshot, it's not important to see what it looks like, just check there is only one, and the one that should be there)

The longer next step is to go to the board settings and look at the board filter in the "general" tab.  Click on "edit filter query", it won't break anything without asking.

Next hit the "columns" button, and add "sprint" as a new column.  Then skim that to see if any issues have more than one value for sprint.
