Are emails encrypted in transit between Jira Cloud or 'Email this Issue' add-on and O365?

If we use the default Jira SMTP server or Email this Issue add-on SMTP server, are the emails encrypted in transit? Specifically we want back and forth communications between Jira cloud and our O365 email accounts.
