I accidentally finished our sprint before adding and then immediately closing a few stories that came up unplanned mid-sprint. I'd prefer count the points for those stories back to the sprint that's now ended, but it doesn't seem possible.
Once you have close issues, they won't appear in your backlog. Even if you were to bring those issues back into a state where they'll show in the backlog, the process to associate tickets to a closed sprint isn't pretty. You would need to do the following.
At this point the Sprint custom field doesn't show the name of the sprint but the ID that is used in the database. Leaving the Sprint field exposed on your view details isn't a good idea as other users can unknowingly insert bad data. I'm not quite sure of how adding items to a close sprint will change the statistics for that sprint either.
Once a sprint is closed, even if you add it as he described, none of the sprint reports will be updated.
And, they have no way of reopening, adding, and reclosing - you'll have to locate the improvement request to vote on it.
But, we've had to do with Ivan has said. Sometimes you miss items in the backlog that end up getting resolved with something in the sprint or accidentally closing a sprint. So, we have the sprint field as editable. We determine the ID by navigating to an issue that is in the sprint, editing the field to see the actual ID, and then adding the ID to the issue you want to add and accept the fact that the sprint reports don't align.
