Any Jira Cloud Transfer Gotchas or Advice?

Edward Moxley
February 5, 2026

We are currently testing the transfer of a Jira space from one cloud instance to another. We've done the transfer once already to uncover any issues or cleanup we might have post migration. Does anyone have any gotchas or advice on what we should be on the lookout for when we transfer the same space over again? We plan to delete the space on the new instance prior to migration.

Hi @Edward Moxley

To as you said delete the space, but also remove it from the Trash, otherwise the key of the space can't be used again

Hello @Edward Moxley

When you are doing the migration you want to make sure that users and groups are moved as well. If you are using Xray, the migration process might be a headache, other than that, everything else didn't present a problem. Before the cloud to cloud was better optimized, I had to create some new filters and apply them to the boards.

This is to a tenant for an entirely different company as part of a divestiture. I will be creating new accounts there and running API scripts to replace the old users with the new users. I've never done that before so if there are any things I should look at, I'd appreciate it.

Hi @Edward Moxley

Good call doing a test migration first. That’s the best way to surface issues early.

A few areas to double-check:

  • Custom fields and field contexts alignment.
  • User mapping and inactive account handling.
  • Marketplace app dependencies.
  • Issue links and cross-project references.
  • Cleanup residual configs before re-migration.

In such a scenario, you may want to explore OpsHub Migration Manager (OMM), an Atlassian Solutions Partner. It supports complete or phased migrations without downtime, preserves full history including comments and attachments, and avoids data duplication issues.

Hope this makes sense to you!
