I renamed a project from Test to Test2 and it's key from TEST to TEST2, all went well, re-indexing was done.  There is now a project Test2 with key TEST2, and the old one Test with key TEST is gone.

Now I would like to add a new project, again with key TEST, however I get the message:

Project 'Test2' uses this project key.

What am I missing here, Test2 should have key TEST2 and the key TEST should no longer exist?

Hello,

When you change the key of a project, the old key is still there. All issues in this project can be referenced by the old and the new project key.

Here is an open ticket in Atlassian:

You have to hoover things out of the database and destroy issue history if you want to re-use a project key.  It's not pretty.
