After assigning Fix Version issue disappears from the board

After assigning a value to Fix Version field updated issue disappears from the board.

Hiding the field in Field Configuration has similar effect, but on all issues, no matter if they have assigned value to this field or not.

My board filter is: project = SCRUM ORDER BY fixVersion ASC, priority DESC, Flagged DESC

On a kanban board, there is a secondary filter which is there to exclude "released" issues from the board.  This works out to be "and fixVersion is empty". 

Clicking on "release" sets the fixVersion on all issues in the "done" column, and hence drops the issues from the board.
