Advice on replacing Icons for Jira (formerly Code Barrels)

We had gotten along fine with Icons for Jira (formerly Code Barrels) in our Data Center instance until recently, but now it's quite clear we need to replace this unsupported plug-in.

If anyone has experiences with replacing this functionality, we'd love to hear it.

• What's been a good replacement capability?
• Any general advice on migrating these custom fields and their data

Fortunately, we don't have too heavy a use here but it certainly looks like it could be a pain.

Use keyboard symbols and entering them into a text field as a workaround.
