Adding users to a group with the remote API call /rest/api/2/group/user

I'm trying to add users to a group with the remote API via the /rest/api/2/group/user POST call and the documentation https://docs.atlassian.com/jira/REST/ondemand/#d2e2017isn't working correctly. The acceptable request representations section isn't expanding to show me the request parameters and I haven't been able to guess what is required (getting 401 errors mostly, null userIDs.) I've tried adding "user: <userid>" and "username: <userid>" to the request with little success.

So, does this call even work with the newer style accounts in OnDemand? and if so, does anyone have the proper request format that I should be sending?
