Adding external users to Jira board for visibility

I've seen a few threads on this but most are at least a couple years old. Is there any way to add an external user (i.e. a customer without an Atlassian license) some sort of limited access/permissions to view the live Jira board we have for their project?

Hi @Katelyn Botts,

Granting access to Jira (Software) without a license works through anonymous access. That is something to set up with caution, as it opens up that information to literally the world.

You can read more about anonymous access in this support article.

At the same time, anonymous access will not allow those users to access boards, as clearly stated in this extract from the article linked above:
