Hi All,
I am currently making changes to our bug workflow, and in the process I have added two new custom fields. I am trying to add these new fields to existing bug cards (one of the new custom fields is updated when "Resolved" date is changed). There are 3k issues I am trying to add this new field to, and looking into "bulk editing" tool, however that does not solve the issue. Would anyone have any experience with this that could help?
Thank you in advance!
-Taylor
Hi Taylor,
have you done the "Customizing Jira Workflows" course (it's free in the Atlassian University, at least in May 2020)? If I understood it correctly in the course, then you need a marketplace app to perform the changes to the existing issues. In the course material there's one reference to updating an issue's field (and thus, all affected issues) by using the post function "Update Issue Field", complemented by the hint that "several marketplace apps allow you to update custom fields".
Hope that helps - although probably not in the way you wished it would help.
Hi Taylor,
Your best best is probably the Bulk change route. Can you be more specific on how that does not solve the issue?

Hi John,
Thanks for your response! A custom field that I added (called "Verified Date") was modified within the bug issue type workflow to update whenever Resolution was set or modified, essentially linking the two fields. With the existing bug cards, their respective "Resolved" dates are different, and bulk change would allow me to add "Verified Date", but only if choosing a specific date from the calendar. I was trying to find a way to set a bulk edit through a JQL query, which would not only add the "Verified Date" to these existing bug cards, but also set that field's value to its respective "Resolved" date.

Yeah, there's not really a way to do that right now. Automation For Jira is working on something that might help or solve that. But not sure when that would be ready.
I typically run the list and then do a sort on the Resolved Date and the do the bulk change for the groups that have the same date, starting with the most recent.
You probably don't need metrics back through more than about 3-6 months worth I wouldn't think. So if it were me, I wouldn't try to do all 3,000 of them.
