How do I add a new field called "Validate" in the bug resolution screen?

Those buttons are not "fields", they are transitions.

Transitions change the status of issues, and are often named after the status that they will move the issue to.

You need to decide what "validate" would actually do and then edit it into the workflow.  For example, as Ollie suggests, the most obvious option would be that you add a new status of "validated" and then have the transition take the issue into that.  You'll need to think of how to move on to other status as well though.

Hi,

thanks to you both, I have created that new status on added it is part of the workflow but my question is how to make that new status appear as part of the UI (like the two options I have highlighted) so the user can just click on it as opposed to selecting it from the "Workflow" dropdown.

The buttons are transitions, so as we've said, you need to add a transition out of the current status and into the new one.

The workflow bar is designed to try not to over-flow on the screen.  When an issue has lots of outgoing transitions, it displays the first few (default setting is 2) and then shoves the rest into the "workflow" drop-down.

You can make a change to a properties file to get fewer, more or even all, transitions shown as buttons, but it's a bit ugly when you get over 4 or 5.

Probably more useful is that you can put properties on the transitions to re-order them.  It is not uncommon to see opsbar-sequence properties set to simply 10, 20, 30, 40 and so-on (note that you could do 1, 2, 3, 4 etc, but if you decide to add a new transitions, it's a pain re-numbering, so by doing it in 10s, you can add ones like 14, 15, 18 etc)
