Starting a new project again have to deal with the awful Jira admin interface. This is now Jira Software... well. Official docs/help is irrelevant and doesn't work.
So I have groups and projects on my account. I want to create a new project and add an existing group to it. In Projects/[Project Name]/Project Settings I press Add people button and in the popup ADD PEOPLE I try to enter the user name, a group name, and even the email address of exiting users. Nothing work. Surprise surprise.
Is there any walkaround?
I guess I find the solution on community forums. Somehow by default admins don't have "Browse users and groups" permission(which is "a bit" ridiculous).

Project admins do not have by default the browse users and groups. Site/Org admins do. But if a previous admin messed up the global permissions, you can't really blame jira :/

Yeah. But I am the only admin for 6+ years and I've made 10+ projects for this period. And I've never ever touched something extra than basic stuff 😂

"Nothing works" doesn't really help us solving your problem, is it? Care to explain a bit the "nothing works" sentence? Do you get an error message? Do you see anything happening?
I'm sorry that you are having such a lousy experience with Jira, but most likely you are unfortunate, since Jira is outstanding (with its flaws of course).

"Nothing works" means literally that nothing works. I try to enter email/name/group name (all this already exists) in the field in the ADD PEOPLE popup but jira does not substitute existing entities but offers to invite them to the site

@Evgeniy Gatsalov there is a case that you have sent previously an invitation to a user but this user didn't accept it (meaning he hasn't logged in yet on your instance). In that case, when you try to add him on a project, you might see still the invitation message. If you refresh your window (clear cache as well) can you see the user as a username now?

There was a problem that as the global admin I didn't have "Browse users and groups" permission and couldn't see any existing users and groups. After I manually added this permission all works fine.
