Hi everyone,

Earlier today, we were about to start our daily meeting when all the items on our active Sprint board suddenly vanished, leaving the board completely empty.

Upon checking the Backlog, I noticed that the active sprint—as well as other previously created sprints—are also showing as empty. Some of the items that were in the sprint have moved back to the general Backlog.

I searched the forum and noticed that other users are reporting the same issue.
When I try to view the sprint items via the Issue Navigator, it also shows no items associated with the sprint. I tried a suggestion I found online to edit the sprint end date and save it, but the board remained empty.

Key details

  • In the individual issue view, the "Sprint" field still shows the correct sprint assigned.
  • A temporary workaround I found is to manually remove the sprint from an item and then re-add it. This makes the item reappear on the board, but doing this one by one is not feasible for us.

Second Issue: Our Epics have lost their names and are now appearing as "Unlabelled." Additionally, all items linked to these Epics have disappeared from the Epic view.

I’ve heard from colleagues in other companies that they are experiencing the exact same thing today. Do we need to open a formal support ticket, or is this a known global issue that is already being investigated?

Hi everyone, I just received the message below from the support team. It turns out it was indeed a Jira instability caused by some maintenance they were performing.

Now that the maintenance is complete, all boards are back to normal, and the Epics have their names and associated items restored.

"We are currently reindexing Jira. If possible please, raise a ticket including details of the issue you’re facing (such as dashboards name, sprint/project, link to the page, etc.), including the system node you’re connected to. You’re able to see that when accessing the system main page. The node information is located at the footer of the page."

Thanks to everyone who reached out to help!

Hi Guilherme,

It sounds like you need to report this to Atlassian Support to get there feedback and check if a bug has been introduced.

Hi @John Funk

The issue was caused by maintenance involving a Jira reindex. Now that the maintenance is complete, all boards are back to normal, and the Epics have their names and associated items restored.

Thanks for the help!

Hi @Guilherme Figueiredo de Mendonca Gitahy and welcome

I can not see any active incident for Jira at the moment, you can check this here: Jira Status

First issue:

I would start by checking the admin log if you have access to it. (Cogwheel ->System ->Audit log. Here you can see if someone accidently have closed your sprint.

If you need to reopen a closed sprint go to the sprint report and choose the sprint and click on the three dots to the right and choose "reopen sprint"

Second issue:

Check the history tab on the Epic that has lost the name to see what has changed.

I hope this helps!

Hi @Guilherme Figueiredo de Mendonca Gitahy Yes, I would suggest to open a formal support request with Atlassian. Currently, there is no active incident.

Do the work items (issues) still exist? Have you checked the board filter? Does the board filter still show the work items?

Please note that Epic Name has been replaced by Parent quite a while ago: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Jira-Service-Management-articles/Changes-coming-to-your-site-The-Parent-Field/ba-p/2765075
