Personalize your Jira Software Projects with a splash of color 🎨

Hi Jira Community!

We’re bringing a splash of color to Jira. I’m excited to announce that theming is gradually rolling out to all software projects .

Project admins can customize their teams' projects with a selection of solid colored backgrounds to make every project that much more engaging to work in.

How to set a theme

To set a theme, you must be a project admin. You must also have the new navigation enabled to access theming.

Theming is available in the following views, with more coming soon:

• Summary
• All Work
• Board
• Timeline
• Backlog
• List

To set a theme:

1. Open a project that you would like to theme.

2. Go to a board in a company-managed project, or a supported view in a team-managed project.

3. Hover on the project or board name in the sidebar.

4. Select More Actions () that appears next to the project name.

5. Select Set project background.

6. Select your preferred theme.

Having a default theme/background associated with project categories could be a useful visual guide for instances with many projects

Hi,

I'm not getting what's new here? We have had backgrounds and even image backgrounds on Jira projects for a while.  What we really NEED is that same layout horizontal bar with colors for Jira Service Management projects.

Hi @Susan thanks for your feedback!

We're bringing theming to software projects. Previously, theming (colored backgrounds/images as you mentioned) was only available in business projects (this product was formerly known as Jira Work Management). We're extending this capability to software projects as well. Hope this helps!

Also, thanks for your suggestion to add horizontal navigation to Jira Service Management projects - I'll pass on your suggestion to the relevant team!
