What is shown?
Jira’s “field helper” function helps find missing fields and troubleshoot causes.
Visit: Jira > browse/[ITEM-1234]
What can we learn?
A field can present on a screen, but can be invisible to the end user for a variety of reasons like:
it has a context that reduces its scope to certain work types or Jira projects
it’s hidden in a Cloud layout,
it’s moved to a collapsed tab until it has a value,
it’s hidden by a field configuration,
it’s hidden or pinned to the top of the right sidebar by a user,
it’s hidden by a third-party app,
and more.
Jira Cloud “Find your field” function
To troubleshoot missing fields, use the “Find your field” helper function. It’s under the ellipses menu at the top right of any Jira item. This feature checks the current project and work type’s scope, field configuration, and screens to uncover common configuration problems.
In the first screenshot, I’ve searched for the “Strategy” custom field in a random Jira project. Jira reports that the problem is the field isn’t on the screen powering the specific item.
The helper shows which settings to modify and provides direct links to those settings.
