Can not link different sites issues although the option to do it is shown

I need to link different Sites Jira tickets

When seeing Linked issue in the ticket, there is showing an option off linking a ticket to other site Jira, but after adding a number of a ticket  from that site, it shows and error. Please see a screenshot attached. 

Can we link such tickets and if can't why do we have this option showing to us?

Can you add the screenshot of the error to this post ?

It's possible to link issues, but only on the same instance.
