With the Jira Service Management ChatOps bot, you can:
Configure once, then simply use !alias-name ➡️ the bot replies with @ on-call human. Fast, simple, effective.
So what is an alias?
An alias is your quick way to reach the right person. Just set a keyword (e.g., !team), and the Jira Service Management ChatOps bot will automatically @ mention whoever is on call for that schedule. No more guessing. Learn more about alias.
Who can set up these on-call notifications in Slack?
The only prerequisite: your Jira Service Management site must be connected to your Slack workspace via the Chat and Video Tools page. This connection needs to be established by a Product Admin.

Configuration Steps
Step 1
Connect your Slack Workspace with Jira Service Management Site
From the top right of your screen, select Settings > Products.
Under the Operations section, go to Chat and video tools.
Under Slack, select Connect
Log into Slack, and select Authorize to allow Jira Service Management to access your slack workspace
Step 2
Type /jsmops connect schedule or /jsmops oncall, you will get a CTA to Connect Schedule. Click on that CTA.
Some users might see this screen in Slack requesting permissions, if you don’t see the same and instead see the configure model, jump to Step 4
Step 3
Provide the permissions shown on the Slack OAuth screen to allow us to invite Jira Service Management ChatOps bot to both public and private channels that the user is a member of. These permissions ensure the bot can function correctly in those channels once it's added.
PS: This is a one time permission to be given by user, that’s all.
Step 4
Once the permission is given, you can again click on Connect Schedule CTA and you will see the “Connect a schedule” modal. Select the site, schedule and other configurations to set up notifications and create alias for invoking on-call team members
Step 5
Once the schedule connection is configured you will see the success message along with details.
Step 6
Once the schedule is configured you can use the configured alias to invoke the on call team member.

You can use this feature in public as well as private channels. All you need to ensure that you provide the permission to Jira Service Management ChatOps bot to both public and private channels that the user is a member of.
