Is it possible to create cross-project automation rules for team-based projects?

Eleandia November 28, 2022

Is it possible to create an automation rule that applies to two distinct team-based projects?

e.g. Once a ticket on Project A changes status to ‘X’, a ticket on Project B changes status to ‘Y’.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Eleandia - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Yes, you should be able to do that. Give it a shot and then pose a question here in the Community if you have trouble.

Hi @Eleandia -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Yes, and...to John's answer:

As these are team-managed projects, their custom fields, status values, etc. are each distinct.  So that means there could be "challenges" with rules spanning multiple projects.  For example, errors in issue transition, updating fields show as unknown, and so on.

There is an improvement from Atlassian in progress to support sharing custom fields between team-managed projects: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-20905  Until that is released, some things to help are:

  • when possible, use the custom field id values for the specific project
  • use the status id values when trying to transition for a specific project's issues

Kind regards,
Bill
