we have stories and other work items that were in a sprint and so had a status assigned (or had a status assigned incorrectly) - they are now back into the backlog but are still showing 'blocked' or 'development' for example - how do i remove this?
They are in the Backlog and still have the status blocked? Or do they show wrong in a board?

yes - brand new story - that needs refinement and more detail so staying in the backlog - but has 'blocked/on hold' on it and I can't remove it.
