Upgrading from version 4.1.1 #522 to version 4.4.3

Rajendran Menon November 1, 2011

Hi,

We have an existing instlaltion of JIRA running version 4.1.1 and containing large amout of data. We would now like to upgrade this to the latest version (4.4.3). We tried to download the latest version and ran it. However, the upgrade wizard simply showed an error message "Sorry, but we are unable to automatically ugrade your verson of JIRA"

We have no clue on how to upgrade this manually as the the upgrade guides are all confusing to us. What is the best way to go about doing this, without loosing the data?

Thanks and Regards

Rajendran

B/c your version is prior to 4.2, you should read this

Upgrade manually link: http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Upgrading+JIRA+Manually

The basic thing to doL

1) backup everything (database + JIRA config + JIRA directories)

2) Upgrade from 4.1 to 4.4 (or 4.2 then 4.3 then 4.4 - depending on how you comfortable fo the jump). Before you do so, make sure you know what you are sign up for. There is a whole lot of chnages from 4.3 to 4.4 alone that took me a week to figure where things are in Admin page.

3) Upgrade on TEST environment FIRST and then import everything to TEST environment and do some thorough testing. Do not upgrade to prod only b/c that never works !

I answer something similar 2 days ago in here as well.

HOpe this helps!
