This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Installing JIRA applications
The config.bat fails indicating *** wrong JVM version *** but this is the java that came with the installation download just yesterday.
The Java check fails and I have verified the version is correct as well as updating the java_home and path variables.
Running the command "java -showversion" yields:
D:\Program Files\Atlassian\JIRA\bin>java -showversion
java version "1.8.0_66"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_66-b18)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.66-b18, mixed mode)
My JAVA_HOME variable value is:C:\Program Files\Atlassian\JIRA\jre\bin. Initially the error was prefixed with a note about not finding the JAVA_Home variable so I set it as above and that part of the error message has not re-occurred.
I have verified via the Java Control Panel that my installed version is 1.8.

You may need to explicitly specify the JAVA_HOME in your config file. What is set in there?
