I read in your documentation that unless a Custom Field is TEXT type, then you are unable to add it to the configure issue details area. Is there a work around for this? IS this something you are working on as a future enhancement? thanks!

As may have seen in our documentation it refers the following field types:
You can add custom fields of the following types: text; number; date; user & group (in GreenHopper 6.1.1 and later versions); and label, select, check-box, radio button, version (in GreenHopper 6.1.2 and later versions). Refer

I have a ticket opened and it seems that the "People" area I want to add is not avaiable until GreenHopper 6.1.4. Looking into upgrading so we can have this feature.
