Is Opsgenie able to reduce the number of pages on a cluster but view all alerts in UI

soundarya sivagurunathan December 3, 2024

Will Opsgenie be able to page once for all the different alerts that could occur on a cluster during an outage but show the different alerts separately in the UI?

Page just once for each cluster is fine but we should be able to view the different alerts that is firing across all the clusters in the UI.

For ex:

1st page in Opsgenie for cluster A but need to see alert1 and alert2 in UI:

  • alert1 on cluster A
  • alert2 on cluster A

2nd page in opsgenie for cluster B for all 3 but see alert1, alert2 & alert3 in UI:

  • alert1 on cluster B
  • alert2 on cluster B
  • alert3 on cluster B

Tried to configure the integration to trigger alerts with the same alias (ClusterName as alias). Got paged once but the different alerts are grouped together because of the alias and there is only 1 alert in the UI. Under Activity log, I could see the different alerts.

Is there a way to achieve this?

Thanks for your help!

Hey @soundarya sivagurunathan ,

Thank you for your question. I understand you want to group all alerts during an outage and receive only a single notification.

In such cases, you might consider automatically creating an incident instead of individual alerts. Incidents allow you to group alerts together, ensuring you receive only one notification, while subsequent alerts are simply grouped or associated without triggering additional notifications.

To achieve this, you would set up an incident rule. When alerts matching this rule are sent to Opsgenie, it automatically creates an incident and maps any new alerts to it.

This setup also helps in effectively communicating with stakeholders and managing service mapping.

For more details on incidents and automatic creation, you can refer to the links below:
