sub projects of an over all project?

I want to have a project (called IFD) that will have multiple sub projects. This is for our Marketing Team's needs. We have a number of web site projects and I want to have IFD represent all Marketing Jira Requests, but I further want to create multiple projects within that project, or categories within the project.

Example. IFD project and sub project or category would be DVALS and another would be IFDC and CVALS. That way we can see how many overall issues we have for Marketing and how many for each web site or sub-project.

How can I set this up?

You're not able to create sub-projects in JIRA, however you might find using components a useful tool to organize the information as you've described. Components are used as sub-sections of a project in order to organize further within that project. Here's some info to check out -

I wish I found this article sooner. Figured to use the components fiend the hard way. 

Once the component field is set, its easy to create filters based on componends and feed them to the widgets onto the dashboard.
