"Jira Business project" a Jira Software project or Servicer Desk project?

This might be a stupid question but...

We have licenses on both Jira and Jira service management, both Cloud. When filtering Jira projects I can see different project types, see below,  and I wonder if both Jira -  Business project and Jira - Software project goes under our Jira licensing or if any of them is a Jira Service management project? I assume that these are both Jira Software and goes under our Jira license but I just want to make sure since I can't really see that anywhere more than just looking at the project details.

When I filter projects I can choose these project types:

Jira - Business projects

Jira - Software projects

Jira Service management

Jira product discovery

Thank you!

Br

Hi @Linda Korpås , good question for clarification.

Historically, Jira Work Management (the business projects you see) was billed separately from Jira Software (the software projects you see), however recently Atlassian announced these would be consolidated.

(Edit: Yup! This was announced as part of Team 24 last year: https://www.atlassian.com/blog/announcements/the-next-era-of-jira)

Here's the Atlassian Licensing FAQ with more details, and some additional context around related questions: https://www.atlassian.com/licensing/jira-work-management#why-jwm-jsm-unifying%3F

Jira Service Management is still a separate product that licenses need to be procured for, and that only encompasses Jira Service Management projects.

The same is true for Jira Product Discovery, that is a separate subscription only for Jira Product Discovery projects.

If you have access to the Atlassian Admin page at admin.atlassian.com, you should be able to see a more fine breakdown of how many licenses you have available, and what users have what licenses.

Hope that helps!

Robert

Hi @Linda Korpås

Yes you are right.

We’ve seen how Jira Software and Jira Work Management have helped teams do their best work, so we are bringing together the best of both worlds into one Jira experience that offers what both software and business teams need to collaborate better with each other. Jira Software Cloud has always included all Jira Work Management features in business projects as well as software projects. Now unified, Jira is more streamlined, collaborative, and powerful than ever.

Hi @Linda Korpås , business projects aka JWM and Jira software are the same application now and are branded simply as Jira. Jira Service Management and JPD are separate applications. You can see the Atlassian portfolio here - products

Good Day to you @Linda Korpås !

Licensing for Atlassian has a lot of different flavors depending upon the needs that best meet the requirements of your Team, Organization, Company, etc. When it comes to Jira Business Project Types, that variety is available to any License agreement for Jira Software as it is the default Application. You can find out more about that, and more here. Based on the search results for your query you put into the your post, it looks like you have a license agreement for Jira that includes Jira Software Projects and Jira Service Management (AKA A Service Desk) for your instance and again, that would come with Jira Business (Core) Project types also. Plus, it looks like you have Jira Product Discovery too which is pretty neat. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, fire'em off. We're all here to help :).
