need a "in blocked by"/"blocks" report

Lisa Foltz February 24, 2015

We are using JIRA Agile, Crucible and Confluence (Hosted).  We us the "is blocked by"/"blocks" links in the JIRA issues but cannot find a way to pull a report with dependencies. Even exporting all fields to excel does not provide the information for us to be able to manage our dependent issues.  The tools power cannot be utilized without this capability.  I should be available with the standard offering.  Can you help us with a query?

Hi Lisa.  I can't offer a complete solution but perhaps you may find some of these tips useful.  You can find all issues linked to a single issue using the issuelinks() function in JQL. e.g.

issue in linkedIssues("JRA-3821")

If you were on a server version of JIRA you could find all dependent issues for an issue or set of issues using Script Runner, but it might be difficult to get it into a format that would be palatable as a report.

If you're primarily tracking your issues on an agile board, you could start using the Flagging feature (in addition to linking) to indicate issues that are blocked.  This would make it easy to query blocked issues, but not necessarily the issues that are blocking them.
