how to JIRA Database upgrade?

HongSeok Kim October 28, 2014

We consider change server and upgrade jira&conflunce's database server.

We use JIRA 6.2.5 & confluence 5.5.1. And MSSQL 2008R2.

We will move new server and using MSSQL 2012.

What can we do?

I think install same version jira/confluence, mssql 2008 in new server.

-> export old server, import new server. -> JIRA/Confluence upgrade. -> DB Server Upgrade.

I read many document in confluence, buy I didn't find DB Server upgrade.

How can I upgrade Database Server??? (MSSQL 2008 -> 2012)

For MSSQL Database server upgrades, please refer to the documentation as made available on the Knowledge Base of Microsoft. The upgrade path you are looking at in particular, can be found here.

Alternatively, you can generate XML backups of your JIRA and Confluence instances. Once completed, you create new home directories for both JIRA and Confluence, and create empty databases for each of them on your new MSSQL 2012 database server. Start up the instances, and follow the normal installation process, using the newly created databases from the MSSQL 2012 database server. This will effectively provide you with clean installations of both JIRA and Confluence. Once completed, restore the XML backups you have created before, and your instances will be running on the new database server.
