Workflow: How to add transition in draft mode

Richard Taylor August 10, 2021

I am trying to add a transition while in draft mode but it tells me:

"You cannot perform this operation on a draft workflow. More Information."

I can add other transition but it will not let me add this one for some reason.

There are a number of bugs in the workflow editor that instead of fixing, Atlassian have taken the easier route of ignoring because

  • They only affect inexperienced admins or admins who inherit workflows from inexperienced admins (once you've run into this problem once, you'll never put yourself in a place where you do it again)
  • The work around is moderately trivial

What you'll need to do is save what you've got now, copy the workflow so that you have a new "inactive" copy of it, edit the inactive one, adding an outgoing transition to any step (status) that does not have one or more already, save it, then replace the old broken one with it.

This seems like the best way! Thank you for the help. I will try it tonight.

So basically start from scratch?

You could, but: ...copy the workflow so that you have a new "inactive" copy of it...

This issue is still occurring, and it seems a bit overcomplicated to disable the current workflow to add a transition to a draft. Is there an ETA for fixing this? Thanks.
