Why is license management so tedious?

I'm trying to migrate several systems to Cloud. They have licenses from different marketplace vendors for various apps.

Each vendor has it's own portal and methodology for license generation, apart from the concept of a trial license.

There are limits on the number of trial licenses that can be requested, complicated further because I cannot generate new trial licenses onsite or with automation.

Some will come back in email. Some will be pushed back with boilerplate deferral or instruction to renew through Marketplace.

All this while also juggling architectural concerns, bureaucratic hoops and the usual administrative prescriptions associated with a migration.

Atlassian and Marketplace Vendors want to identify and garner metrics from users during migration? Open it up. When a customer has committed to migration and the apps have been selected in JCMA, allocate migration licenses. Keep them rolling and don't let your 7th license extension request get in the way of the entire migration.

Wow.

Streamline migration by allocating migration licenses once customers commit in JCMA. Automate renewals to avoid bottlenecks and ensure uninterrupted transitions.

Exactly. These are all qualified migration customers who are committed to their move.

Hi @_A9_ William Kennedy

Each vendor has it's own portal and methodology for license generation, apart from the concept of a trial license.

You can request licenses at my.atlassian.com. You can get up to 5 licenses per email/account used.

Each app has its name/id, for example:

https://my.atlassian.com/addon/try/net.customware.plugins.connector.salesforce.salesforce-connector-plugin.data-center

This will take you directly to the app license. If you've requested 5, then you can use another account to request more.

You can check this ID for each app under manage apps.

Hope that helps!

Regards

Touching trial licenses at all while committed to the other work is too cumbersome and in some cases, means the carefully planned work goes out the window because CAB meets on the Second Tuesday of the Month.

You can get up to 5 licenses per email/account used. (You must do this and only this)

I really don't want to manage these individually any longer at this stage of the migration, certainly not 30 days at a time. These apps are moving. They are licensed in Cloud.
