Within one of our Jira product backlogs, there is at least 1 instance where only 1 out of 2 associated sub-tasks are visible in the backlog when selecting the expand carrot.

In the image below, you'll notice that FA-28 is the Story and is assigned to an active sprint. When selecting the expand button, only one sub-task is shown (FA-36).

However, when you go into FA-28, you'll see there are 2 open sub-tasks. I need help with understanding why only FA-36 is visible and not FA-35.

Hello @Joshua Markus

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Is this board for a Company Managed project or a Team Managed project? You can get the project Type information from the Type column on the View All Projects page under the Projects menu.

Please check the configuration of the board to confirm that all statuses are mapped to a column and no statuses (specifically the In Progress status) are in the Unmapped Statuses area.

If this is for a Company Managed project review the board configuration to look at the Filter used to select issues for the board. Is the filter written in such a way that the subtask should be included in the issues displayed on the board?
