Hi, we have been using Jira (Cloud Free) for several years without any problems and suddenly, without doing anything, I as an administrator and all other users can no longer reply to comments, but we can edit the comments of other users.
Does anyone have any idea what happened and how we can fix it?
@D_D_ is running on a free tier, some permission options are limited on free tier
Are you using a team or company managed project?
Can you show screenshots (configuration of projects, permission schemes etc..)
Also check the audit log in Jira and the audit log in administration
What changes have been made?

Hi @Marc - Devoteam ,
Audit logs are only available for the premium tier of Jira.
@D_D_ since this is a free tier that you have, it would be helpful to provide some screenshots.

Thank you both.
We're using a team managed project on a free plan. I've removed permission for all users to be able to edit comments but everyone can still edit and delete each other's comments.
Also, we can only write a new comment, but not reply to any comment anymore. There is a "Edit" and "Delete" link but no "Reply" link anymore underneath each comment regardless of who the author of the comment is.
I also realised that all users are administrators and I can't change their role since we're using a free plan. It looks like Jira has changed the permissions for free tiers and we now have to upgrade the account to be able to set these permissions.
As I wrote above, it worked for years and suddenly this change happened without us ever adjusting anything in the settings.

Hi @D_D_
This has not changed recently.
I have a personal free tier since a couple of years, and this permission options has been on my instance for at least a year.
So you have just noticed it now or your instance has only been affected now, nut that seems very strange.

Welcome @D_D_
Check your permission scheme for your project, more specifically the Add Comments, Edit Issues as well.

Thanks for your advice. Of course, I looked in the settings first before posting the question here, but I can't find any such options in the project settings.
In the system settings there are options to set global permissions, but not for users to be able to edit other users' comments and/or reply to comments and/or editing ticket descriptions.
Where should I find these settings?
