Which permissions are required to create a new BigPicture program?

stefano reghezza October 2, 2018

Hi, we are testing the BigPicture functionality and attempting to create a new program, we read and applied the instructions as per this post here: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Why-I-can-t-create-new-BigPicture-Program/qaq-p/802926

but still get the

" Missing additional permissions to view, create, manage or assign issues or links, No permissions to create task ...  "

What we do:

- Create Program from scratch

- The creator is the Program Leader

What are we missing? Is our understanding right that the program leader should be able to create such BigPicture programs?

Thank you!

We're still getting this note and our admin has launched the powerup. What are we missing?

BigPicture requires administrative rights to function properly. In order to start using the BigPicture Trello Power-Up, please ensure that it has already been launched by the Team’s Administrator.

Erica,

You are a STAR. Thank you for pointing to our documentation.

In case of such errors it is necessary to make sure that the user creating the program has the necessary permissions:

Here is how it works now:

  • For Clone/Import/Evaluate options of Program creation:

    • 'Create new Jira Project' option selected - you must be able to create project. Plugin's checking up for Create Issues & Assignable User permissions in Permission Scheme selected as default.
    • 'Create new Jira Project' NOT selected (choosing existing Jira Project) - Plugin's checking up for Create Issues & Assignable User permissions in Permission Scheme associated to existing Jira Project sou you must have them.
  • For Create new Program:

    • 'Create new Jira Project' selected - you Must be able to create project.
    • 'Create new Jira Project' NOT selected (choosing existing Jira Project) - you must be able to create Programs.

The easiest way to check permissions is to use the Jira permission helper, just press the (.)dot key, type in "permission helper" and check the necessary permissions depending on the configuration you are using.

In case you have trouble following the guidelines or your problem is more complicated please contact us using our customer portal.

Hello, Is Program the only issue type we can create in Big Picture or does it allow creating a hierarchy of portfolio level issues? for example: program -> initiative -> sub-initiative.. and have a parent link to associate these issues in hierarchy like portfolio for jira?

Hi, thank you! It turned out this was due to a mis- match between the Jira and the BigPicture versions. As soon we installed the newest BigPicture plugin it worked. Thanks again.
