Where do I set "Search Template" for custom field in Jira Cloud?

Hi,

I've seen several community posts about setting a search template option when editing custom fields so that I can use JQL to search and not just sort using them, however none of the custom fields that we use have an option to do so when you click "Edit"; it only allows you to change the description of the field.  Can someone tell me how to make these custom fields searchable and not just sortable as the error message indicates?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hello @Jeff Hayes

Can you confirm that these are custom fields that have been created by Jira Administrators for use in Company Managed projects, versus the custom fields that can be created within Team Managed projects?

Can you provide screen images of 1 or more custom fields where you are not seeing the Search Template option?

Hello @Jeff Hayes

(You can reply to a response here rather than adding a new answer, to keep the conversation correctly ordered.)

(Company Managed projects have the same architecture as the projects you used in Jira on-prem. Team Managed projects are an alternate architecture that is available only in Cloud. If you want to learn more about that, here is a reference.)

From the screen image you posted it appears to me that you are looking at the Field Configurations. The Search Template is set in the Custom Fields screen after selecting a specific field, as noted by @Mikael Sandberg

If you happened to get here and you're trying to find this on Data Center, here's the documentation:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/editing-or-deleting-custom-fields-1047552719.html

The path is the same as Mikael shared:

  1. Find your custom field and select Actions  > Edit.

Trudy,

I don't understand what a company managed vs. team managed project is.  We migrated from Server to Cloud last week and I'm just trying to clean up the mess that the migration assistant left for us.

Here are two examples of what I see:

Thanks,

You can change the search template if you go to Settings > Issues > Custom fields, then click on the three-dot menu and select Edit details.

YES!  Thank you!  It's insane to me that there are multiple methods to access the exact same fields, but one place has options that others do not.  Much appreciated!
