When adding a sprint, some boards set the dates automatically, others not.

Does anybody know why sometimes a board will automatically set sprint dates, based on previous sprints, but on other boards (only the sprint name with an incremented number is added). I've not found anything different between scrum boards, but there must be a setting somewhere.

Its a real pain manually setting up future sprints, by having to manually set dates. Not found a tool to do it either. I've seen this done in the past via a manually written app, via API calls, but i dont have time to figure this out.

Hey Andrew,

The dates set upon creating a new Sprint depend on the duration and the end date of the previous Sprint. If the duration of a Sprint is custom, the end date isn't carried over to the new Sprint.

When you create the first Sprint on a board, by default, the Start Date is the current date, and the duration is two weeks. If you choose one of the fixed duration options, that is, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, or 4 weeks, all the subsequent sprint dates are incremented by the same duration.

For example: For your Sprint 1, the start date is 4th September (today), and the duration is two weeks. So the end date becomes 18th September.

When you create another sprint, Sprint 2, its Start date will be set as 18th September (the end date of the previous Sprint) and the End date as 2nd October (2 weeks, which is the duration taken from the previous Sprint).

Now, if you go to Edit Sprint and change the duration of Sprint 2 to Custom, the next Sprint will not continue the dates from Sprint 2. In that case, when you create a new Sprint (let's say Sprint 3), the Sprint 3 will not have any dates set, and you need to enter them manually.

I hope this information is helpful.
Thanks!!

@Karan Sachdev , the dates are not custom, and the dates are not automatically set. Can you advise please?
