When it is ready.

Atlassian do not give us fixed dates for new releases, only a very very broad window.  They don't want to release software that isn't ready, like most organisations do because they've committed to a date they can't guarantee.

As the time approaches, you'll find the window narrows a bit, maybe going from something like "hopefully Q2 2022" to "around May 2022" when we're a bit closer to that time, but you'll never get an actual date, not until the actual day it's released and becomes available.

You can usually get a good idea from the Early Access releases - these start appearing several weeks before the production release, to enable developers to build and test their apps, people to try out upgrades, and to give us a good look around before the actual release.

Thanks Nic for the information.

Are there actually any news about that? Usually on these dates we had news about new versions, but this year there are no news about functionalities or EAP releases, right?

It's finally there :-) Release date was 21 June 2022:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftware/jira-software-9-0-x-release-notes-1142227613.html

As of writing these lines even Jira 9.1 is available.

Version 9.2 is not out yet but it should not take that long to be available.

And we have also had an indication that 9.4 will be the next Long Term Support release. See https://community.developer.atlassian.com/t/long-term-support-releases-coming-soon-jira-software-9-4-and-jira-service-management-5-4/59871

As a follow on to the previous comments about release dates. Jira 9.x is scheduled for Early Access Program in mid January 2022 with a tentative target for full release in Q2 2022.
