What's the best way to track amount of work DONE using the Kanban board workflow?

Our team is too large and handling both new features and production issues, making Scrum not really suitable.

We like the Kanban board so far.

1. How do you estimate work to be done and view work completed in the next 1-2 weeks so you can figure out a release date target?

- Looking to show progress as well, ie, how much the team has completed

2. Is there a way to setup sprints in combination with Kanban (is this Scrumban?)

Hi Barbara,

For question 1, I would highly recommend taking a look at Portfolio for JIRA. It is designed and built to address these scenarios.

For question 2, setting up sprints in combination with Kanban is the Scrum board.

Scrumban is just an easier way to manage and prioritize your backlog when working in Kanban. It does not include sprints. Atlassian recently released Kanplan mode that you might find helpful when estimating your backlog.

Please take a look at https://www.atlassian.com/agile/kanplan

I reviewed Kanplan,..looks like its a Kanban backlog... Still wondering how folks track work complete and how much work can get done for planning and reporting purposes. Thanks

Hi Barbara,

As I mentioned in my previous response, Portfolio for JIRA would probably be the best fit for forecasting release dates and validating how much work can your team actually complete in a target release.

Here is a blog post you might find helpful - https://www.atlassian.com/blog/jira-software/kanban-with-portfolio-for-jira

Point 5 in the above doc might be particularly helpful with what you are looking for.

Cheers

Bhushan
