What happens to old pick list values on closed tickets when you change the values available?

We are changing the values available for our Priority field.  Can anyone tell me what will happen to the old values on current and closed tickets once I remove them from the pick list?

Hi @Angel 

It depends if this is a custom field or the standard priority field.

-----------------

Custom Field:

  • If you delete a pick list option, it will remove these values from all issues
  • In Classic projects, there is also the option to disable - this will keep the options in existing issues, but stop users from selecting the values now or in future

-----------------

Priority:

  • The system field "Priority" only has the option to remove priorities
  • When removing an option, any existing issue with that value will need to have its priority changes to an active value

Hi @Angel 

When you're deleting a priority, Jira will ask which other, existing priority to move issues to :)

The bulk change will then take place during that process.
