This column has appeared but I can't determine what it's purpose is, I have added comments in cards and clicked however it doesn't show anything?
Hi @Rachael Hunter,
I discovered the feature to in my test instance. It appears that it opens the issue in a side panel on the right hand side of the screen, displaying the comments section at the bottom of the panel for that issue.
The behaviour is pretty much the same as clicking the key column in the list, but another section of the side panel is displayed. You can add new comments in the side panel as well.
Hope this helps!
Hi Rachael,
Hmm, that's interesting - just noticed it, also.
@Jane Yeoh - Can you shed any light on it?
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
So @Walter Buggenhout is right, it is a Comments column so you're able to access comments quickly for individual items.

I know this doesn't immediately answer your question, but might be interesting regardless: If you're interested in "comment related" information in a list view, there's more of this available in the app that my team is working on, JXL for Jira.
JXL is a full-fledged table/spreadsheet view for your issues that allows viewing, editing, sorting and filter by all your issue fields, plus a number of "smart fields" that aren't natively available. Among these "smart fields" are a large number of comment-related fields, including the first or latest comment, the time of these comments, or the people who made these comments. As with any other field, you can e.g. sort, filter, or group by these fields, apply conditional formatting, and much more.
This is how this looks in action:
JXL integrates with the project sidebar, so many of our customers use it as an extension to Jira's native views. It's also worth pointing out that JXL works with any project type, including Jira Software or Service Management projects.
Hope this is helpful,
Best,
Hannes
