We need recommendation for Atlassian applications architectural design/environment setup.

Tariq Ashraf January 21, 2020

Hi,

We want to set up Jira Server (Core, Software and Service Desk) + Confluence + Zephyr/ Xray/ TM4J + Bitbucket + Crowd infrastructure for our organization.

Team Structure:

Overall Stakeholders: 175-210

Developers: 80-90 , Testers: 25-30, BAs: 12-15, Support Team: 8-10, Others:  50-60

After seeing various guidelines posted by Atlassian (mentioned below for reference), we came up with below architectural design topologies.

https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/jira-server-sizing-guide-975033809.html https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver075/jira-applications-installation-requirements-935390824.html  https://confluence.atlassian.com/enterprise/jira-sizing-guide-461504623.html  https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/server-hardware-requirements-guide-30736403.html  https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/example-size-and-hardware-specifications-from-customer-survey-76840961.html

We are planning to install and configure all above mentioned applications as per the below distributed topologies and hardware specs with almost (210 users, 120-140 Concurrent users, 350-500 Issues/month, 120-150 custom fields, 12-15 workflows, etc.)

Architectural Design Topology 1:

Application Server 1: (VM)

  1. Jira Core + Software + Service Desk
  2. Zephyr for Jira /Xray Test Management/ TM4J
  3. Confluence

Server Specs: (RHEL 7)

vCPU: 4, RAM: 16 GB, Hard Disk Space: 200-250 GB

Application Server 2: (VM)

  1. Bitbucket
  2. Crowd

Server Specs: (RHEL 7)

vCPU: 4, RAM: 16 GB, Hard Disk Space: 150-200 GB

Database Server: (VM)

  • MS SQL SERVER 2016 or 2017

Server Specs: (RHEL 7)

vCPU: 4, RAM: 16 GB,  Hard Disk Space: 250-300 GB

Architectural Design Topology 2:

Application Server 1: (VM)

  1. Jira Core + Software + Service Desk
  2. Zephyr for Jira /Xray Test Management/ TM4J

Server Specs: (RHEL 7)

vCPU: 4, RAM: 16 GB, Hard Disk Space: 100-150 GB

Application Server 2: (VM)

  1. Confluence

Server Specs: (RHEL 7)

vCPU: 4, RAM: 16 GB, Hard Disk Space: 100-150 GB

Application Server 3: (VM)

  1. Bitbucket
  2. Crowd

Server Specs: (RHEL 7)

vCPU: 4, RAM: 16 GB, Hard Disk Space: 150-200 GB

Database Server: (VM)

  • MS SQL SERVER 2016 or 2017

Server Specs: (RHEL 7)

vCPU: 4, RAM: 16 GB,  Hard Disk Space: 250-300 GB

We need expert advice regarding above mentioned distributed topologies and hardware specifications from performance point of view with almost (210 users, 120-140 Concurrent users, 350-500 Issues/month, 120-150 custom fields, 12-15 workflows, etc.). Is it Ok OR need some modification?

We have also checked the pros and cons of installing multiple application on single server.

https://confluence.atlassian.com/confeval/other-atlassian-evaluator-resources/server-installing-multiple-applications-on-a-single-server

What could be the pros and cons of above architectural designs? OR Should we segregate/merge/change the apps server installation combination.

Thanks,

Tariq Ashraf

Are you sure you need to have architect, as I see the requirements are too simple
