Viewing time estimates or story points of linked child issues in UI

Maybe this is a product enhancement...

Is there a way to display the time estimate or story points for child issues/linked issues that hang off a story or task in the UI so that you do not have to physically open the linked issue?

If anyone knows a way to do this, please do let me know!

Hello @Lynn Wilson

What type of project are you using?

Are you talking about the Child Issue display under Epics, or relationships at other levels in the issue type hierarchy?

And are you talking specifically about child issues or linked issues? Child issues and linked issues are handled differently in Jira.

Estimate information should display automatically in the Child Issue display that appears within an Epic type issue.

Hi Trudy!

This is in Jira Software specifically -

When I view my Epic or story and have child issues or linked issues, I want to see the estimates for the individual issue lines and it doesnt display, so I'm wondering if there is a configuration somewhere that allows that to display.  I've attached a generic screen shot from the Epic level.  Its the same UI display for child issues and linked issues

The Child issues display in your image is attempting to display the estimate where you see the gray lozenge with a dash in it, on the right.

The field that it attempts to show there will be based on what you selected for Estimation for your board.

This works only for Child issues. The Linked Issues section will not display the field associated with Estimates.

Thanks Trudy - I thought the same with the ' - ' display but still unable to see it.  Will check with my admin again.  Appreciate the input!

Hi @Lynn Wilson

Just to add to Trudy's answer: If you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you should be able to find apps there that can help with this.

One app that comes to my mind is Issue Matrix for Jira, which extends the issue view.

Alternatively, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on: JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a long list of advanced features, including support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.

With these, you can build a view like e.g. this in just a couple of clicks:

story-point-sum-up.gif

This is really just one of a virtually endless number of possible views and reports; you can also view and group by any other issue fields, configure different sum-up styles, etc. etc.

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes

Hi Lynn,

If you would be interested in a mktplace add-on to view the linked issues and all the associated fields, try out

Issue Hierarchy

The app also allows you to view %complete progress at each parent level. It roll ups the time tracking fields, story point or numeric fields at each parent level.

Thank you Rahul.  Budget is tight but I'll take a look.
