Velocity reporting total for multiple projects

Susan Cain February 10, 2025

Our business is looking to find a way to export Jira report that would show sprint data such as, story points committed and completed, across all projects. I do know the ability to view a report like that for one project at a time in Jira in the report section but I couldn't find a way to export those data to an excel or CSV. I have looked for add-ons/plugins that would have that feature but couldn't find any. Our JIRA is a server instance.

Is there any method for us to export a report like that from JIRA or any add-ons/plugins? Any help and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Susan Cain,

I don't see any way to do this in Jira other than having a board that contains issues from all projects and a single sprint that has all the issues, which is probably not convenient at all...

You could search for a plugin on Atlassian Marketplace, although it might not be possible to display the total velocity as long you have different sprints.

If you want to try a plugin, a possible option to display the cross-project velocity would be to use the Kanban Velocity gadget offered by our Great Gadgets app. This gadget does not use sprints, it uses a filter and time intervals. So if you configure it with a filter/JQL that returns the issues from your projects and configure it to display time intervals of 2 weeks (or same as your sprints), you will get an overall velocity per time intervals, which might be what you want. This gadget can display also a Data tab with all the issues, which you can then export in CSV

Unfortunately this will not display initial commitment, because it does not have the notion of sprints.

Another possibility would be to use the Pivot Table & Pivot Chart gadget offered by the same app. By using this gadget you could calculate the total velocity, but the only condition would be that all your teams to use the same sprint name, because the gadget will do the grouping by sprint name. You can also configure it to display the Average column, which will show the completed per project and overall.

Hi @Susan Cain ,

If you have a Server instance, then probably you need to change the tags for the current question.

If you had JIRA Cloud, I would propose the app I developed - Multi-team Scrum Metrics & Retrospective. Using it you can see up to 4 projects/boards at once and export to CSV/PDF.
