Hey there @Ratom! Quick rest assured, you are correct! Users canNOT change issue key names. But there are a couple of actions and events that can change issue keys. Two things I found that would change your issue key are:

  • If the issue was moved from one project to another. When this happens, the issue key updates to a new issue key number. Here is a similar instant in the Forums a few months ago.
  • If an admin changes a project key, Jira automatically updates all associated issue keys to reflect the new project key.

The history will show an entry just as you posted when the user updates the project key or moved the issue to another project with a different key prefix. But, users cannot change the issue key names, you're spot on.
