We finally got our CIO to agree on a JIRA upgrade.but....
I need help, we would like to upgrade our JIRA to a newer version but unsure what impact this will have.
The version of JIRA we'd like to move to depends on whether it will be compatible with the service desk.
Our setup
Also the higher ups want to move JIRA to the cloud,we are currently on prem server.
Also we have custom code in JIRA, would will happen to this code?
If we move to cloud, i see admins do not have access to the database. Recently we had to gain access to the database in order to change email addresses (bulk change).
With the cloud, who can we contact to do this on our behalf?
Cn anyone provide a link to a user friendly guide on upgrading my version?

Going from 7.2.3 to latest should not be a problem. Moving from Server to Cloud.. it really depends you your current instance. Cloud have some limits and your instance might not fit. Check this doc for more info

If having custom code.. you will not get any answer here. Just prepare a staging server when you can upgrade without any problem and do some testing. If everything would be ok you can do the same steps on PRD instance and enjoy new version :)
