Unable to Create Tickets After Disabling Backlog and Sprint Features in Jira

Datpmt November 7, 2024

Hello Jira Support Team,

I am encountering an issue after disabling the "Enable Backlog" and "Enable Sprint" features in my Jira project. Once I made these changes, I am no longer able to create new tickets. Every time I attempt to create a ticket, I receive an error message stating "Required field: Sprint."

I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this issue. Here are some additional details that might help:

  • Project Type: Team-managed software

  • Steps taken:

    1. Disabled "Enable Backlog"
    2. Disabled "Enable Sprint"
    3. Tried creating a new issue, and received the error message.
  • Error message: "Required field: Sprint"

I understand that the Sprint field is typically required when using Scrum boards, but since I have disabled the Sprint functionality, I would expect it not to be a mandatory field for issue creation.

Could you please guide me on how to resolve this or adjust the project settings to allow issue creation without the need for a Sprint field?

Thank you for your help!

I found the solution: remove the 'Sprint' field before disabling the Backlog and Sprint features.

To fix the issue where Jira requires the Sprint field after disabling the Backlog and Sprint features:

  1. Remove the Sprint Field:

    • Go to Jira SettingsIssuesField Configurations.
    • Edit the relevant field configuration and remove or set the Sprint field to Optional.
  2. Disable Backlog and Sprint:

    • After removing the Sprint field, disable the Backlog and Sprint features in the Board Settings or Project Settings.
