Tracking Time Per Project Per Sprint

Kaladin Stormblessed November 27, 2024

How can I track time spent on all the issues assigned to a sprint within a project? The time tracking report includes issues in the backlog. But I would like to exclude the issues in the backlog and take them from a particular sprint.

Hi @Kaladin Stormblessed ,

Unfortunately, natively JIRA can't do it. You can manually aggregate this data by exporting data from Issue Navigator to Excel. Or you can use the app I have developed - Multi-team Scrum Metrics & Retrospective. In this case, it will do it automatically for you and provide a lot of additional useful capabilities.

Hi @Kaladin Stormblessed

For tracking time spent per sprint and for detailed reporting, you may want to try out our mktplace app

Worklogs Time Tracking & Timesheets

With this add-on, you can easily view time entries for multiple issues day wise grouped by in a single view. The app allows to filter/Categorize/Group your worklogs data and a timesheet view too to track individual time spent.

Hi @Kaladin Stormblessed ,

You can use the burndown chart available on the reports page of the relevant project. However, if you're looking for a more detailed view to analyze worklogs, using a third-party application from the Atlassian Marketplace cloud be a better solution.

WorklogPRO - Timesheet for Jira could be a choice. It provides the ability to categorize logs and analyze logged hours through grouping and filtering options. You can create a filter in Jira to display the issues from the specific sprint you're interested in. Then, simply generate a report by selecting this filter in the "Issue filter" field and choosing "Issue" as the group field in the report creation dialog. This will allow you to view the worklogs of the issues associated with that sprint.sprint_view.jpg

Hi @Kaladin Stormblessed

I can suggest a solution in the form of our application that we offer - Worklogs - Time Tracking and Time Reports.

Our application displays the time logged in Jira issue - based on the native Jira time tracking tool.

In the app you can use the Sprint Filter to display issues and logged time from the particular sprint. The date range and issues will be adjusted to the chosen sprint.

Of course, the application allows for much more and you can filter the data according to your needs.

If you have any questions, go ahead and contact us via portal or schedule a meeting with us - we'll explain everything.

Hi @Kaladin Stormblessed,

I'm afraid there is no good and easy way to determine this with Jira reports. Try looking on the Sprint report, Burnup Chart report and Burndown Chart report as these might help in some extent.

Otherwise, a solution would be to search on Atlassian Marketplace for an app (plugin) that offers a report or gadget that is capable to calculate what you need.

If you consider the option of using an app, our Great Gadgets app offers some gadgets that can be very helpful for what you need:

Pivot Table & Pivot Chart gadget - most likely the best option - by using this gadegt you can to easily calculate the total time spent of the issues in the sprints, and split them by project.

The info can be displayed in form or table, heat-map table or charts of various types. Please note that this gadget just determines the time spent of the issues, sums-it up and group it by project and sprint. But this does not mean that the time was logged during that sprint; if you had issues carried over multiple sprints, the time spent will be reflected in the last/current sprint of these issues.

Sprint Burndown Chart gadget - this gadget lets you track the time during a specific sprint. Besides the burndown chart, it offers also a Data tab with the time spent on all the issue from the sprint.

Team Velocity gadget - this gadget lets you track the time during recent sprints. Besides the burndown chart, it offers also a Data tab with the time spent on all the issue from the sprint.

Hi Aditya,

Welcome to community :)

Burndown Chart

The Burndown Chart shows the work that has been completed in a sprint and estimates how long it will take to complete the remaining work. This can help you determine the likelihood of your team completing a sprint on time — allowing you to visualize or highlight problems so your team can take actions to remedy them.
