Traceability REport

Swati Verma August 27, 2024

I want to replicate Traceability report in order to customize the columns in the view.

We have a custom issue type “Design“ which is linked with “Task“. The Task is covered under Tests. Therefore I want a report which shows traceability of Design being liked with task and task begin linked with test and thus linked with the defects.

I have attached a screenshot so I need a column for linked Issues with the colmns already present. the linked task should show tests, test runs and defects.

Note: I dont want to link the designs with Test according to the company processCapture.JPG

Hi @Swati Verma  ,

There's a app for Confluence named Xray Reports for Confluence that can serve this purpose, if you're using Xray Test Management.

This app allows you to embed testing reports, based on data from Xray Test Management, directly into your pages in Confluence. It provides several macros tailored for this, that allow you, for example, to track traceability.

It is a macro that provides preview on the results, before publishing the page, and allows interaction with the chart, for example to expand epics and see the related story issues.

Right now it doesn't seem to support yet customization on the columns, but maybe you can ask the vendor for that feature.

To get it working, you'll need to follow these steps, which require installing not just this app on Confluence but also a "Connector" app in your Jira instance:

  1. install the Xray Reports Connector for Jira app on your Jira cloud instance
  2. install the Xray Reports app in your Confluence cloud instance
  3. configure the Xray API client id and client secret on the settings of the Xray Reports for Confluence app; you need to obtain the client id and client secret from your Xray API Key settings, in your Jira cloud instance

More info on the installation steps here.

@Swati Verma

Another option, if you are considering Apps, is to use Jira Snapshots for Confluence together with Snapshots Traceability Extensions  (that gives you a deep integration with Xray data) .

You'll have full control on the scope of the traceability, relation between levels, and which columns to see.

I am attaching a couple of screen shot for the result and also for the configuration screen

Traceability-testrun2.jpgI do not know if you use Confluence- but you can even use it on a free version of Confluence (and the two apps are free from tiers of up to 10 users, if that helps).

Try it free to see if it fits

(Discl. it is a paid and supported app developed by our team. Free for 10 users!)

I hope this helps,

Rina

Hi Rina,

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, this plugin is also not the solution to my problem.

Feedback:

I tried using the plugin "Jira Snapshot," and I found it not very user-friendly. It did not update the search or columns after I edited them in Confluence. Additionally, you don't see the results unless you publish the page, which is a bit inconvenient for me.

Also, after downloading the plugin, Confluence automatically shifted to the "Standard Plan." As a result, it started charging for three users, even though it should be free for up to 10 users.

Thank you but I did this report to be present on Jira so that I can use it in dashboard etc.

However this app is not solving the purpose, so in first column I need design issue type only, second column I need stories/tasks which are linked to that design, 3rd column I need test which is linked to that stories/tasks and 4th column I need defects in those test cases.

Do you think this is possible through any other app?

I don't know any, but I think you should check out the apps in the "Test management" collection and also search for terms "traceability", "requirement", etc.

With the Better PDF Exporter you can produce a traceability report like the one below.

It will basically traverse issue links (configurable) and parent-child relationships (configurable) up to a max distance (configurable). It is shown in the leftmost column.

Plus, it will display your selected columns in the right (from "Key" to "Created" in this example).

Try it free to see if it fits your use case! If not, note that the template is customizable, so you can custom-tailor it to your needs.
